Artisan Interview: Carole Hennessy
August - September Feature
Illinois Artisans, Chicago
Carole Hennessy’s watercolor paintings, heavily influenced by the farmland of the Midwest, blend reality with abstraction as they translate organic landscapes into patterns of geometric shapes. Lonely barns sit atop flat squares, rectangles and circles, simultaneously presenting linear and aerial perspectives of the countryside. In a recent interview, Hennessy gave us some insight into her artistic process as well as her personal relationship with the rural scenery of the Midwest.
“I’ve been looking at this landscape since I was a child. When we lived in Quincy we would drive down to the city all the time because all our family lived here and during the trip I would just draw.”
